THERE is no hurry in appointing the Homa Bay Public Service Board chairman, Governor Cyprian Awiti has said.

Awiti said finding Mathew Oseko’s replacement will take two or three months.

Oseko resigned on August 10, citing frustrations from the Office of the Governor.

Awiti, however, has denied the claims, saying Oseko was “getting too involved in politics”.

Speaking in his office on Wednesday, Awiti was with Planning executive Nicholas K’Oriko.

“We do not want to make mistakes because it is an important post,” Awiti said.

He said most areas that require to be handled by a PSB chairman have been taken care of.

“Little is impending to call for immediate appointment,” Awiti said.

Recruitments of chief officers for various departments and ward and subcounty administrators have been done, he said.

Awiti urged leaders not to politicise the issue.

“While we appointed Oseko, we were not pushed or directed. We did not consult any politicians,” he said.

Awiti urged Homa Bay MCAs to focus on developing the region, and not appointment matters.

“We have not made a decision over where the PSB chairman will come from,” he said.

He was responding to calls by Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga that he needs to honour campaign pledges on county appointments.

Speaking on Sunday, Magwanga said the county assembly speaker’s position was reserved for Kabondo Kasipul constituency, while the county PSB chairman position was reserved for Kasipul.

MCAs opposed Magwanga’s argument on the appointment slots.

K’Oriko said it is wrong for anybody to influence the governor’s decision on the appointment.

He said the constitution and the County Government Act is clear on who should b appointed to the position.
