Homa Bay chief worried about kidnaps

Police in Homa Bay have been asked to investigate kidnapping cases in Kalanya-Konyango location.

Addressing journalists in Homa Bay town on Monday, chief Fredrick Onyango said two cases were reported between Saturday and Monday.

“We appeal to the police to investigate the incidents and expose the culprits,” Onyango said.

He said on Saturday night, a shopkeeperand a resident, Andrew Awino, were kidnapped and driven away in a Toyota Probox.

Onyango said the kidnappers stole Sh23,000 from Awino before dumping him in a dark room in Oruba village, in Migori county.

“The kidnappers tied Awino’s hands to the back and stuck a bar soap in his mouth to keep him from screaming for help,” he said.Chief Onyango said on Monday,

 Victor Auka, a boda boda operator, got a message warning him of his kidnap.He reported the matter at Homa Bay police station.

Onyango said Auka was kidnapped on his way back and is yet to be found.

The kidnappers have asked for Sh50,000 ransom from Auka’s family.

The chief said another boda boda operator has received the threat message.
